Fiber lensing
Besides the conventional fiber technologies like splicing, polishing and coating, glass fibers are provided with customer-specific fiber lenses for particular packaging requirements. Applications are primarily telecommunication modules, sensors and medical applications (fiber connectors, collimators, transceiver and fiber grid lasers as well as endoscopes). In this context special emphasis is placed on improved coupling efficiency, a competitive packaging technology and on reliability.
The design-specific lens parameters are determined by BPM simulation. Primary focus is on the production and further development of the following configurations (differently doped materials, additional polishing steps etc.):
- tapered fibers
- fused piece of silica on glass fiber
- fused piece of GRIN fiber on glass fiber
- fused piece of GRIN fiber on piece of silica on glass fiber
