2013 saw Fraunhofer IZM marked not just one, but two anniversaries: 20 years of the institute and 25 years since the establishment of its long-term collaboration partner, the TU Berlin Research Center of Microperipheric Technologies. The institute celebrated on November 6, 2013, at Berlin’s Maritim proArte Hotel with an expert symposium and jubilee event.
Many former Fraunhofer IZM staff were among the 450 guests at the anniversary celebration.
A warm welcome by Fraunhofer IZM Director Prof. Klaus-Dieter Lang, and a raucous rendition of “Happy Birthday”, led by Fabulous Fridays and the Universität der Künste Berlin’s choir, signaled the start of the night’s festivities. The evening’s agenda had been kept a strict secret - in keeping with the institute’s focus on embedded electronics, it was an evening of diverse “embedded entertainment”, accompanied by the world’s smallest band.
Without a doubt, the photo booth was the evening’s most in-demand attraction. Young and old, current and former staff, posed for snapshots in front of Fraunhofer IZM logos, seizing their opportunity to take home a special reminder of an evening celebrating an institute that in Germany is arguably synonymous with microelectronics itself.
