At the occasion of Professor Herbert Reichl's 60th birthday, Fraunhofer‚s President Professor Hans Jörg Bullinger awarded him the research establishment's highest honor - the Fraunhofer medallion.

Reichl was honored among other things for establishing the IZM, the first all-German Fraunhofer Institute, and for guiding for many years the Microelectronics Alliance, which always had a model character within the Fraunhofer Society.
